I Watched - a poem

From the moment we arrived

You walked in to get checked in

And I watched.

I found you on the bed

Answering every question asked

And I watched.

12 hours long

They gave you it to help

And I watched

Every hour of the night

You winced in pain and agony

And I watched

The 9 months prior

You hurt and changed and cried

And I watched

In and out of sleep

You continued to fight through

And I watched

They didn’t do it all right

And you hurt until you were sick

And I watched

Corrections came to remedy

As you couldn’t move yourself

And I watched

The medicine finally kicked in

And you fell asleep like a child,

And I wept.

I wept as you rested

Knowing you needed it

And knowing how much I love you.

To see you hurt

And to only watch

Tore my heart in a way I never felt.

I would take the pain

If I had the chance

And pray you never had to watch.
