Age is Beautiful - a poem

I’ve always hated non-aging products

that get rid of your wrinkles 

and your gray hairs

and your sinking cheekbones 

because I think that age is beautiful.

It is not worth paying hundreds

to rid ourselves of inevitable things

because it will happen eventually.

It will happen eventually 

and we should let it happen

because age is beautiful.

Most would say that I am ignorant

that I don’t understand

that I am a child and

that I will ‘understand when I am older.’

But all I would say to them

is that I am sorry.

I am sorry

that I don’t want to hate my birthdays and

that I don’t want to dread blowing out the candles.

I am the most sorry

that you stopped buying candles.
