A Valentine's Visitation - a poem

It was February 14th

And so I printed the date in my journal

with your favorite pen that I had never touched

hoping that the ink could last forever

or maybe it wasn’t the ink

maybe it was just you

your sweet laughter, the sound of your favorite song spilling onto the paper

your voice that would lull me to sleep every night

until it faded away

and I was left alone

our child was gone and so were you

I tried to leave like you left me

I didn’t know where you were or what happened

So I kept drinking my sorrows away

till I past out, knowing that I wasn’t going to live anymore

until I blinked and suddenly, I had a Valentine

you
